In 2005 the City conducted an update to the Airport's Master Plan (last completed in 1999). An Airport Master Plan is a FAA-prescribed planning process with the primary goal of provide a twenty year development program that is efficient, economical, safe and environmentally acceptable for the airport facility. Specifically, a Master Plan uses forecasting methodologies to predict future airport activity which ultimately dictates the need and timing for future capital improvements. The resulting Master Plan document provides a recommended capital improvement plan, including project phasing, estimated costs and proposed funding sources. In addition, an Airport layout pLan (ALP) is developed that is used as the FAA approved layout for the airport. The FAA requires that a valid and up-to-date ALP be kept on file if an airport desires to be the recipient of FAA grants.
