Economic Impact of Arts and Culture in St. Petersburg

The arts in St. Petersburg not only improves the city's quality of life, they are an economic powerhouse in the city, according to a new study. The city's arts and cultural organizations fuel an economic impact of more than $23 million and attract 1.3 million visitors to the city each year - creating 519 jobs. ArtPlace America is a collaboration of 13 leading national and regional foundations and six of the nation’s largest banks. ArtPlace America also seeks advice and counsel from close working relationships with various federal agencies, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the departments of Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, Education, and Transportation, along with leadership from the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Domestic Policy Council.

In 2012, readers in the annual AmericanStyle magazine readers' poll handed St. Petersburg the lead with 39 percent of the vote, followed by Tampa (3) and Miami (7) for cities with populations under 499,999.
