IMPORTANT PROGRAM/CAMP REGISTRATION INFORMATION:   

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve program fees have changed as approved by the Mayor and City Council, effective October 1, 2007.  Registration fees have been in place for city recreation programs for many years. The city's resident and non-resident pricing now applies to all "fee" classes and day camps at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve and Pinellas Pioneer Settlement. More information.
All programs meet or take place at the
Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center
located at 1101 Country Club Way S
unless otherwise stated.

Tram Tours run everyday at 1 pm. A tram tour is also available on Saturdays at 10 am. This tour is a great way to see the preserve. Learn about our history,  alligators, gopher tortoises, birds and wild flowers. Cost: admission plus a $2.00 tram fee. Boyd Hill Nature Preserve is closed on Mondays for maintenance.

WEEKLY PROGRAMS
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00  - 7:00pm
WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: EVENING FITNESS WALK - Join Holly Harriman, a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist, in a 45 minute walk that includes warm-up before and stretching afterwards. This gentle exercise program is designed for the working professional to work on the stiffness that comes from sitting or standing too long. Cost: $4.00 each day.

Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11:15 am
JUNGLE BOOGIE –
For ages 3 - 5, from crafts to walks in the preserve, your child will learn about Florida's natural ecosystems, animals, and plants. Cost: Admission for the child of $1.50 plus a $1.00 program fee. Parents are encouraged to stay.

Thursdays 5:30-6:30 pm

Enjoy the beauty of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve with a relaxing Yoga practice! Appropriate for all levels of physical fitness, this 6o minute yoga class will help with a wide range of chronic and acute conditions; because of the non-strenuous nature of Yoga's approach everyone can benefit. Cost: $8.00 per class/ $28.00 per month.

UNDERSTANDING USES OF HERBS & SPICES- Join Mona Radler for an intoxicating class on using herbs and spices for all sorts of uses. Mona is a regular at the Saturday Morning Market and an expert on growing and using herbs, Cost: $15.00.

November 7th & 8th, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
ART ARBOR - The Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve present the 29th annual Family Festival. Bring the whole family for a weekend full of fun! Live Music, Free Guided Tours, Arts and Crafts, Wildlife Stage, Native and Butterfly Plants for sale, Green Stage, Children's Games, Kid's Crafts, Photo Contest Exhibit. Cost: $2.00 adults, $1.00 children

November 8th, 9:00 am
RACCOON RUN - A new addition to Art Arbor, this 5K run takes you on a scenic run through the preserve. Cost: 5K - $15.00, 1 mile run/walk - $12.00.

November 10, 7:30 pm
NATURAL HISTORY SPEAKER SERIES: "THE EFFECTS OF NOISE ON WILDLIFE" - Kyle Baker, Biologist explores the affects of noise on wild animals. Join him as he discusses how underwater noise affects marine animals and aerial noise affects some of the terrestrial animals found at our preserve. Cost: FREE!

November 11 & 18, 6 pm
HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS - Create Victorian era tree ornaments for your home or as gifts. All supplies included. Families encouraged, ages 7 and up. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $10.00 per person per class.

November 14, 9:30 am - 11:00 am
PAPER MAKING FUN - Create beautiful, decorative cards, stationary, envelopes, and journal pages. You are limited only by your own imagination. Ages 8 and up. Cost: $5.00

PIONEER NIGHTS - Join Miss Emily for a fun-filled evening with a campfire and s'mores. Ages: 7 - 13. Cost: $25.00

ALLIGATOR TOUR - This tour will open your eyes to the fascinating and mysterious life of the American Alligator. Space is limited to 15, call to reserve your spot! Cost: $3.00 Adults, $1.50 children.

November 17, 8:00 pm
NIGHT HIKE – GATORS, SPIDERS, AND FROGS...OH MY! Come join in on the fun. Space is limited to 15 people. Paid registration is required to guarantee a space. Cost: $3.00 Adults, $1.50 children

RAIN BARRELS -Have you ever thought "What a waste!" when you see the rain water pouring out of your gutter down spout and then down the street? Learn how to save that water in a recycled plastic barrel for later use. This water is safe for use on your potted plants, vegetable and herb gardens, and special plant collections. All attendees will receive set-up instructions and a reference booklet. If you would like one rain barrel for your household you may purchase it at the class. Cost: $5.00, Rain barrels are $32.10

November 21, 10:00 am - 4:00pm
SCOUT IT OUT - Spend the day with all levels of current Girl Scouts. Share in the activities. A joint venture between the Pioneer Settlement and the local scouting groups to recruit kids to join scouts. This fun-filled day lets you try out the scouting activities before you sign up! Located at the Pinellas Pioneer Settlement: 2900 31st Street South Cost: Free.

November 21, 9:00 - 11:30 am
CANOE LAKE MAGGIORE - Join trained canoe guides as we paddle from Lake Maggiore Park to Dell Holmes Park and back again, investigating the shoreline along the way. Meet at Lake Maggiore Park (MLK and 37th - 40th Ave S) Children must be 8 years old and all minors must be accompanies by an adult. Participants must register by Nov 20th. Cost: $10 per person or $20.00 per canoe; maximum 3 people per canoe.

November 21, 1:30 - 4:30 pm
ECO-ADVENTURES - Join naturalist and experiential educator Damon Chepren (Chep) for this five week series of outdoor discovery. Each day will include hands-on activities, nature exploration, challenge course elements, and being good stewards to our planet. This program will include one overnight camp out on the evening or our last regular meeting date, Jan 16. Meets also on Dec 5 & 19, Jan 2 & 16. Ages 8 - 13. Cost $80.00 residents.

NATURE'S ELEMENTS - A Saturday adventure with Damon "Chep" Chepren. Ages 4 - 7. Cost: $10.00.

NATURE WALK - Enjoy a leisurely walk through the preserve with a Ranger. You will learn new facts about Florida's habitats and the animals that call our preserve home. Cost: $3.00 Adults, $1.50 children.
