Planning and Visioning Commission

The Planning and Visioning Commission is a Mayor appointed citizen board charged with several duties related to the advancement of community planning activities.

Planning and Visioning Commission Duties

  • The PVC is designated as the City’s "Local Planning Agency (LPA)," pursuant to Chapter 163, F.S.
  • The PVC has the general responsibility for the conduct of the comprehensive planning program.
  • The PVC holds public hearings concerning Comprehensive Plan text amendments, Future Land Use Map amendments and rezonings, and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the adoption of any amendments to the Comprehensive Plan or Official Zoning Map.
  • The PVC is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness and status of the Comprehensive Plan and recommending to the City Council such changes as may from time to time be required, including preparation of the periodic Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR).
  • The PVC will review progress towards the City’s Vision as documented in the Comprehensive Plan Vision element.
  • The PVC is to perform any other functions and duties assigned to it by the City Council, including those related to the Vision 2020 Plan.

Commission Membership

The Commission consists of 7 regular members and 2 alternates, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council, who are residents of the City of St. Petersburg. Members serve three year terms not to exceed two consecutive terms.

Commission Meetings

Commission meetings are regularly scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month. Additional meetings and workshops are conducted as needed to address community issues. Meetings are generally conducted in the Council Chambers and televised on Channel 35. Many of the Commission’s agenda items are public hearings. Public participation is encouraged and appreciated.
