Florida Brownfield Redevelopment Program in Action
A Brownfield is defined as real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by actual or perceived environmental contamination. To encourage redevelopment and rehabilitation of these sites, the State of Florida created the Brownfield Redevelopment Act.
Currently, the city of St. Petersburg has three Designated Brownfield Areas within the city limits. Two are located across seven parcels in the Gateway area and one is located in the Downtown/Midtown area.
Recently, Sam's Club applied for a new Brownfield designated area for a new store site located at 1725 34th Street North. The site consists of approximately 14 acres and the new designation will only apply to Sam's Club's property.
In accordance with the new Brownfield designation process, two public meetings will be held to receive public comments and suggestions on the new designation, taking place May 17th and June 7th. Read More
