Education Fundamentals
In St. Petersburg, you will find five collegiate institutes of higher learning which draw 112,000 students annually. These centers include: University of South Florida of St. Petersburg (USF-SP), St. Petersburg College (SPC), Eckerd College, Stetson Law College, and Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
The U.S. Job Corps Center, a first in central Florida, opened in the city's Midtown district in 2010. The Center has the capcity to educate 300+ students per semester provides an opportunity to learn skills necessary to grow and lead a successful life. The Center provides local employers with students trained and skilled in areas such as computer repair, construction, health care, mechanical repair, and the culinary arts.
In addition to the institutes of higher education, the city's K-12 public schools have a partnership program with the business community via the Mayor's Mentor and More initiative, which is comprised of the Corporate Partnership Program, Doorways Scholarship Program, and Top Apple Award Honors Program.
Apart from these education portals for workforce recruitment, the area provides excellent customizable workplace training curriculum and service centers. These additional employer support entities include WorkNet Pinellas, Webster, and Keiser distance learning centers. In addition, the area offers an abundance of opportunities for the workforce to access continuing education credentials in one's field of expertise.
In 2009, the region was recognized as one of the Top 10 Quality Education Systems in the Nation and as having the Most Educated Workforce in Florida/Top 20 in the Nation.
