| In 1903, when George Turner, Sr. started planting on the four acres of land surrounding his home, many tropical plants were inspiring Florida gardeners with their unusual leaves and glorious flowers. His hobby became historic Sunken Gardens, now a botanical garden with over 500 species of tropical and subtropical plants. Some of the oldest Cuban Royal Palms and Bougainvillea in the Southeast provide towering back drops for thousands of exotic plants. Now an educational and cultural facility, this gem in the heart of St. Petersburg provides beauty, relaxation and tranquil fun for all ages. |

Today, the garden is being modeled after Mr. Turner Sr.'s original vision of a botanical paradise. As you meander along the pathways you will discover numerous plant displays that will inspire your own home garden. Demonstration gardens have been added such as the Japanese garden, cactus garden and the butterfly garden with a walk through encounter. There are many interesting activities like horticultural programs, guided tours and festivals such as the orchid festival and the butterfly festival. There is always something new at the garden. Come explore an event, discover what's blooming, join in a class or just sit-back and take in the beauty.
