"Your government in the sun television station," WSPF-TV was born in January of 1990 and originally named WCJT-TV, airing on cable channel 15. In February of 1995, the city purchased W35AJ-TV, a low-power UHF broadcast station, which enabled it to reach every television household within the city.
In December of 1999, W35AJ-TV changed its call letters to WSPF-TV. In April of 2001, WSPF-TV obtained a FCC Class ´A' broadcast license, which allowed it greater signal power and protection, greatly increasing the station's value. It is currently transitioning from an analog to digital facility as required by the FCC by 2009.
Today the station operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and annually produces an average of 480 hours of original programming with a potential reach of 120,000 television households. Approximately 13 city meetings are broadcast live each month. Other programming includes weekly, monthly and quarterly series, city departments' feature programs, public service announcements, promos and the city bulletin board.
Additional responsibilities include actively pursuing world-wide television exposure for the city via broadcast and video, the operation, maintenance and trouble-shooting of City Hall audio-visual equipment and training presenters on its use, duplicating videos, encoding video programs for video streaming on the internet, recording monthly messages for the message on hold system, and developing weekly television and production schedules.
