Home Repair Loans

The city offers home repair loans to qualified applicants who own and occupy single family residences in the City of St. Petersburg. Applicants must meet minimum credit underwriting standards and maximum gross household incomes, as defined by HUD's median family income (MFI).

Depending on the applicants MFI, loans are either repaid at 0% interest for up to 20 years or forgiven over a 10 year term. Available Loan Types Emergency Repair Loans are for making emergency repairs to the roof, electrical system or plumbing system(s) of a qualified home.

Maximum one loan every 10 years. General Home Repair Loans are to correct city code violations and health and safety issues.

When the repair is complete, the home must meet the City's Property Maintenance Minimum Standards.

This loan is only available once to a homeowner.

Lead Paint Removal Loans provide funds to identify and mitigate lead-based paint from qualified homes.

Barrier Free Loans allow qualified disabled home owners to retrofit and make their homes accessible.

Housing Replacement Loans allow qualified elderly and/or disabled owner occupants whose homes have been determined to be beyond repair, to replace their home with a new home of like size and utility.

HOME REPAIR APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Call the City's Affordable Housing W.I.N. office, at (727) 893-7247 and request an Orientation Seminar Selection Form.
  2. Select the Orientation meeting that best fits your schedule and return it to our office. If you are unable to attend one of the seminars, because of health reasons, please notify our office so that other arrangements can be made to meet your needs.
  3. You will receive an Orientation Seminar confirmation indicating the date that is reserved for you. You must attend an Orientation to be able to participate in the loan program.
  4. At the Orientation all aspects of the loan program will be explained to you and you will be able to fill out a loan application
  5. A Rehabilitation Officer (RO) will come to your home to evaluate your home and determine a scope of work. If your home qualifies for repair, an RO will help you bid the work and select your contractor.
  6. As a condition of your loan you will be required to sign a note and mortgage for the funds you are borrowing and your loan will be closed by your Housing Finance Officer.
  7. Construction will commence shortly after loan closing and you will be asked to approve construction draws as the work is completed.
  8. If your loan requires repayment, you will receive a payment coupon book to make your regular monthly payments easier.
