League of American Bicyclists Certifies Additional St. Pete Bike-Friendly Businesses

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (December 19, 2018) – The League of American Bicyclists, the national bicycling and advocacy organization, has recognized four more St. Pete businesses with the Bike-Friendly Business (BFB) certification. This totals 36 certified bike-friendly businesses in St. Pete, ranking the city No. 4 in the nation.

“This program really exemplifies the economic development opportunity we have to weave together business growth, employee recruitment and retention, sustainability, health and wellness and transit options. It is so much more than a bike program,” said Jessica Eilerman, Small Business Liaison and Greenhouse Manager. “It’s an example of how embracing bicycling as a tangible mode of transit is good for business and the community. We are pleased our businesses see the opportunity this presents and how it helps to position our community apart from many others. We gain in both direct and indirect impact from diversifying how we move about our community as customers and employees.”

The newly certified businesses are:

  • St. Petersburg Bicycle Co-op (Platinum)
  • ABC Bicycles (Gold)
  • Trek Bicycle Store St. Petersburg (Gold)
  • 1211 1st (Bronze)

“We are very excited to welcome this next round of certifications,” said Evan Mory, Director of Transportation and Parking Management at The City of St. Petersburg. “Our team is especially thrilled to hear that a St. Petersburg business has received a Platinum-level certification, which is only the second of such to have ever been awarded in Florida. We are impressed by how strongly the business community has embraced the bicycle-friendly mentality for the benefit of employees, customers and their bottom line. We are proud to share that St. Petersburg has more certified Bicycle Friendly Businesses than any other Florida city and all but a few cities across the entire country.”
