MAYOR KRISEMAN HOSTS SHOWCASE OF DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN CITY'S SKYWAY MARINA DISTRICT

St. Petersburg, Fla. (June 25, 2015) St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman welcomed developers, architects, neighborhood leaders and business owners to the Skyway Marina District Investor & Development Showcase held Wednesday at Ceridian’s offices on 34th St. S. in the heart of the new business district.

“The Skyway Marina District is St. Petersburg's next great retail and business destination. I want to thank everyone who joined us today to explore the opportunities for retail and mixed-use development,” said Rick Kriseman, Mayor of St. Petersburg. “The possibilities here are limited only by our imaginations. I'm looking forward to the innovative visions presented by our creative development community.”

Plans for the District include mixed-use development projects featuring retail space, hotel and residential units, offices and conference space. The city will encourage investment with $1 million incentive for the first qualified mixed-use project, and a $50,000 incentive for the first 5,000+ sq. ft. restaurant project with a full liquor bar.

Ceridian is one of the district’s largest industry employers. “We’re honored to join the Skyway Marina District Investor & Development Showcase,” said Todd Simmons, vice president, Service Effectiveness, Ceridian.  “We believe the city’s focus on incenting new retail shops, restaurants and amenities will be a boom to the economy and the community.”

Current research indicates that nearly $57 million in retail sales could be realized within a five-minute drive of the area.  Instead, residents must drive outside the district to purchase these goods and services. Average household incomes in the adjacent neighborhoods exceed $56,000 and nearly 150,000 total vehicles travel daily on the primary roadways that bound the district: 34th Street, I-275 and the Pinellas Bayway. The confluence of these factors combined with the rebounding economy helped spur a partnership of the city, chamber and the district’s business leaders to highlight these opportunities today.
