ST. PETERSBURG, FL (August 4, 2015) – St. Petersburg voters are invited to learn where District 7 City Council candidates stand on the issues during a primary election candidate forum on Thursday, August 13, at City Hall. The forum will be held in City Hall Council Chamber, 175 Fifth St. N. from 7 to 8 p.m. Hosted by the League of Women Voters, the forum will be televised live on the city’s government access channel, StPeteTV, as well as streamed live at www.stpete.org.
Five candidates, including Lisa Wheeler-Brown, Sheila Scott Griffin, Winthrop “Will” Newton, Aaron Sharpe, and Elvert Lewis Stephens will answer a series of pre-screened questions submitted by members of the League of Women Voters and the audience. League member Pat Wood will serve as forum moderator. Representatives from the Pinellas Supervisor of Elections will be available to answer election-related questions and assist with voter registration. Only voters registered in District 7 are eligible to vote in the Tuesday, August 25, primary.
A second candidate forum which will include all City Council candidates running in the District 1 and District 5 races, as well as the two District 7 candidates receiving the most votes in the August primary, will be held at City Hall prior to the November 3 general election. Council Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8 will not be represented on the November ballot; terms in those districts expire in 2018.
Both candidate forums will be carried live on StPeteTV (Channel 35 broadcast, 641 Bright House, 15 WOW, and 20 Verizon FiOs) as well as streamed live on www.stpete.org. The forums will be re-broadcast periodically until the August 25 primary and November 3 general election.
