St. Petersburg Highlights Vibrant Cultural Scene with ArtsAlive/Free Museum Day
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (September 24, 2015) – St. Petersburg shines the spotlight on its vibrant arts and cultural scene with a one-day celebration of the arts - the annual ArtsAlive 2015 Free Museum Day this Saturday, September 26. For this once-a-year event, admission is free to several museums* and cultural attractions in St. Petersburg, ranked the #1 Arts Destination among mid-size cities, named America's Top 2013 ArtPlace, and most recently, the No. 1 Top 10 Town for Craft Lovers.
ArtsAlive/Free Museum Day hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at these participating museums: Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, Florida Holocaust Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, and the St. Petersburg Museum of History. Also participating, The Dali Museum* will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and offer free, limited parking to guests. Participating venues include: Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center, Morean Arts Center, Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop, Morean Arts Center for Clay, and the Chihuly Collection**. Returning to the Duke Energy Center for the Arts Plaza for the second year, the Carmada “Art on the Move” Art Car showcase displays vibrantly custom-decorated vehicles, live vehicle painting demos by St. Petersburg artists, a special edition of the St. Pete Indie Market, live entertainment and more.
Please note, three locations have admission restrictions: **Admission to the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop/Chihuly Collection is $1 for everyone on September 26. *Free admission to The Dali Museum on September 26 will be limited to Pinellas County residents (with ID) ONLY. However, The Dali is offering a special where all other paid admissions on September 26 will receive a coupon for a free admission during October. For more free downtown art experiences, visitors may drop in at any of the many galleries (see list at www.artsstpete.org). The Morean Glass Studio and Hot Shop features live artist demonstrations at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Other Saturday and weekend arts and culture events include a downtown walking mural tour, including 14 outdoor murals created for SHINE; ChalkWalk, a giant display of chalk art in South Straub Park; Central Avenue Solstice, a 9-mile sunup-to-sundown tribute to the sun along Central Avenue; and a Grand Tastings, gourmet delicacies event under white tents at the St. Pete Wine and Food Festival.
The city encourages visitors to park in city garages downtown and ride the St. Petersburg Trolley Downtown Looper or Central Avenue Trolley. The trolleys will be stopping at or near most downtown ArtsAlive venues.
