Learn More About Medicare at Your Library Throughout October

St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 5, 2015) – In October, the St. Petersburg Library System presents various sessions for the public to learn about Medicare Advantage Plans, one-on-one enrollment counseling, Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans and more at several libraries. Dates, topics and locations:

Wednesdays and Fridays. SHINE One-on-one counseling.
If you are new to Medicare or have questions about your current Medicare programs, a SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) counselor will be available for one-on-one counseling at the Main Library, 3745 Ninth Avenue North, every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call the library at 727-893-7724 to make an appointment. And, a SHINE counselor will be available at the South Community Library, 2300 Roy Hanna Drive South, every Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 727-893-7244 to make an appointment. The service is free and open to the public. The SHINE counselor can help answer your questions, assist with enrollment in Medicare Savings Programs, help resolve Medicare coverage issues and appeals, and can help you determine which Medical and/or Medicare Prescription Drug Plan best fits your needs. You can also call the SHINE helpline for phone assistance at 1-800-963-5337.

October 13, 11 a.m. Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs and PPOs.
In partnership with SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) and the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas Inc., the St. Petersburg Main Library, 3745 Ninth Avenue North, will host an informative session on Medicare Advantage Plans on Tuesday, October 13 at 11 am. This session provides more specifics about Medicare Advantage Plans including HMOs and PPOs. You’ll learn what they are, how they work, when you can join and more about your rights and protections. October 20, 11 a.m. Medicare Part D / Prescription Drug Plans.
Also in partnership with SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) and the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas Inc., the St. Petersburg Main Library, 3745 Ninth Ave. N. will host Medicare Part D on Tuesday, October 20 at 11 am.  This is an overview of Medicare Part D. Learn about eligibility and enrollment, how to compare and choose a drug plan, and financial assistance programs.

October 21, 10:30 a.m. Advantage Plans and Medicare Part D Overview.
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) and the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc., are hosting another Medicare session at the South Community Library, 2300 Roy Hanna Drive S., on Wednesday, October 21 at 10:30 am. This session provides more specifics about Medicare Advantage Plans including HMOs and PPOs, along with an overview of Medicare Part D. Learn about how Advantage Plans work, when you can join, your rights and protections, Part D eligibility and enrollment, how to compare and choose a drug plan, and financial assistance programs.

The St. Petersburg Library System offers these programs as a part of its 5E Community Development Initiative, a method to enhance the provision of resources, services, and programs focused on the Economy, Ecology, Equity, Efficiency and Engagement of our community.
