One City-One Book – The Martian – Book Discussion June 18 at Main Library
In conjunction with the St. Petersburg Library System’s 2016 One City One Book Initiative, the Friends of Main Library will lead a book discussion for The Martian by Andy Weir at the Main Library, 3745 Ninth Avenue North, on Saturday, June 18 at 2 p.m.
Overview of The Martian
Mark Watney, botanist and mechanical engineer, is a member of a crew on a ground-breaking mission to Mars. The crew, in the process of completing their mission, is forced to evacuate due to a severe sandstorm. Mark, struck by flying debris during the storm and thought to be dead by his crew, is left behind in order for the crew to safely return home. Mark awakes to find himself alone, the only human on the planet, and immediately begins a passionate fight for survival against significant threats to both his body and his mind.
