Leak from Bleach Containment System Noted at Northwest Reclamation Plant
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (MARCH 16, 2017) – During routine cleaning of a bleach tank at the Northwest Water Reclamation Plant, 7500 26th Ave. N., on Wednesday, March 15, a leak was noted in the containment system. Approximately 30 gallons of diluted bleach leaked from the containment system onto the surrounding asphalt and evaporated, about three gallons went into a storm drain. A sodium sulfite tablet was added to the storm drain to neutralize the chlorine as a precaution. The leak occurred at 8:30 a.m. and ceased at 9 a.m. There was no discharge to surface waters. The containment area is in the process of being repaired.
