ST. PETERSBURG GOES TO THE DOGS WITH SOUTHEASTERN GUIDE DOGS WALKATHON
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (February 27, 2015) –About 3,000 two-legged and 800 canine companions go for a morning walk in the park tomorrow, February 28, during the 2015 Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon. Tomorrow’s event allows the organization to raise, train and match guide dog companions with visually impaired persons or others in need of assistance. Registration is available at www.guidedogswalkathon.org.
Festivities, including live music, tasty treats for people and pets, the Southeastern Guide Dogs dog boutique and other dog-related vendors, begin at 8:30 a.m. in Vinoy Park with the walk at 9:30 a.m. Participants will travel along Bayshore Dr. NE, Fifth Ave. NE, and sidewalks along Second Ave. NE (the Pier Approach), returning along Bayshore Dr. and Fifth Ave. NE to Vinoy Park.
Road closures and detours will be in place in the event footprint from approximately 6 a.m. to around noon. Access to both the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel and the Vinoy Place Condos will be handled via cone lines during the event. Traffic congestion is expected to be moderate.
Visitors to downtown should be aware of parking restrictions along the walk route from 6:30 a.m. to approximately noon. Owners of vehicles displaying Residential Parking permits are encouraged to find alternate parking during the event. Vehicles, including those with Residential Parking permits, are not exempt from receiving citations or relocation during special events.For more information or to register, visit www.guidedogs.org.
