MAINSAIL STUDENT SHOW DIGITAL ENTRIES DUE MARCH 13
St. Petersburg, FL (March 2, 2015) – Student artists in grades K-12 are invited to compete for a chance to exhibit their artwork at the 40th Anniversary Mainsail Art Festival to be held April 18-19, 2015 in downtown St. Petersburg. The Young at ARt Student Show has been a part of Mainsail for 13 years and is a juried exhibition open to all public and private school students in Pinellas County.
Only digital entries will be accepted for the Young at ARt program and digital entries must be submitted by Friday, March 13, 2015. Entry forms and information are available online at http://www.mainsailart.org/young-at-art/.
Artwork will be judged by digital images submitted WITH a completed entry form. An independent judge will select the final artwork based on artistic merit, originality, skill, technique, personal artistic vision, and style. All students selected for the exhibition will receive an Award of Merit Certificate. Student awards will be announced on Saturday, April 18 at the Mainsail Festival main stage in the south end of Vinoy Park, Bayshore Drive and 7th Ave. NE in downtown St. Petersburg.
Mainsail also offers the Young Masters Award, where $1,000 cash prizes are presented to five twelfth grade students in the Pinellas County School System. Mainsail started the Young Masters Award last year in conjunction with the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a prestigious national competition and Mainsail’s Young at ARt student show will showcase a portfolio of their work.
The annual Mainsail Art Festival has been named by the Sunshine Artist as one of the “100 Best” fine art and design events in the nation. Over 100,000 people enjoy this weekend event showcasing visual and performing arts along with opportunities for children to actively engage in art activities. Admission is free. Hours are Saturday, April 18, 9 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, April 19, 10 AM to 5 PM. In addition to the Young at ARt exhibition, over 250 professional artists from all over the U.S. exhibit work in the categories of ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, oil/acrylic, photography, sculpture, watercolor, and wood.
