CITY PREPARES FOR NEW PIER CONSTRUCTION AS GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE PHASE 1 IS APPROVED

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (June 1, 2017) - The new St. Petersburg Pier moved another step closer to fruition as the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the first phase of construction was approved at today's St. Petersburg City Council meeting. The GMP is the not-to-exceed price for the initial phase of construction for the new Pier. This approval is for Phase 1 of the Pier construction. It totals 17.6 million and authorizes Skanska USA Building, Inc. (Skanska) to construct the marine structural work related to The New St. Petersburg Pier Project.

In late 2016, demolition was completed on the former Inverted Pyramid Pier. Final permits for the new Pier District were received this week from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Initial construction, including driving the pilings that will support the Pier structure, and the cast-in-place concrete platform over water, is slated to begin later this month.  Phase 2 of construction, for the work above the Pier platform, will commence in the fall of this year.
