Central Avenue Closed for Water Line Repairs

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (June 12, 2017) – A broken fitting along one of the city’s oldest water pipelines is bringing repairs – and brief road closing – to downtown St. Petersburg’s Central Avenue.

Detours were set in place along Central between 7th and 8th Streets as workers began repairs on the slow leak – which was first spotted Friday night.

“We through that it would be better to wait until Monday so that we wouldn’t be so disruptive to the downtown activities over the weekend,” said Bob LaBrie, with St. Petersburg Water Maintenance.  And so they did.

Westbound lanes along Central between 7th and 8th will be closed until the repairs are finished
LaBrie says that the work should be done quickly, with minimal impact on local businesses.

“There should be no reason why it’s not done by this weekend,” he said.
