Contractor slices Reclaimed Water line, Spill contained on site

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (August 9, 2017) -- Late on Tuesday afternoon, August 8, 2017, a Florida Gas contractor, working in the 1000 block of 16th Street South cut a 1’ slit in the 16” reclaimed water main.

Over a three hour period, while crews excavated and repaired the pipeline, approximately 3,780 gallons of fully-treated RECLAIMED quality water was spilled in the immediate area.  The majority of the water either soaked into the ground or was spread across the roadway by traffic.  A small amount of the reclaimed quality water was conveyed into the nearby storm drain system.

It should be noted that “soaking into the ground” is the intended use of reclaimed water.
