Small sewage seepage confined to SW Water Reclamation Facility
St. Petersburg, Fla (August 29, 2017) – During a coordinated operation to bypass the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility’s headworks during wet weather Monday night, approximately 1000 gallons of influent (wastewater mixed with rainwater) seeped out of the headworks.
The spill – which was detected shortly after 8 pm and stopped by 8:30 pm – was confined to the immediate area around the headworks structure. The influent either seeped into the ground or went back into the treatment process. It did not convey into any area waterways or past the boundaries of the plant.
