Recycling collection suspended due to loss of power at processing facility

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (September 12, 2017)  --  Many residents and businesses within the City of St Petersburg are still without power after Hurricane Irma. Unfortunately, one of these businesses is our recycling partner. They do the work of separating the different components of our recyclable material for resale.

Their power has not been restored by Duke Energy and, at this point, they do not have an estimate of when they will resume the processing of recyclable material. Until they are able to process our material, the City will suspend the collection of recyclable material. As soon as their power is restored, we will resume collection the next day.

At this time, we know there will be no collection on Wednesday, September 13th. We will communicate the status of the processor each day until normal collection resumes.

We know that some people have full containers and that suspending collection will be disruptive. However, these steps are necessary in order to prevent that material from becoming contaminated and non-recyclable. We thank you for your cooperation and patience. Please look for continuing communication each day until the problem is resolved.
