Museums, Galleries, Free Clinic Team Up for Hurricane Recovery During Free Museum Day
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (September 21, 2017) – St. Petersburg’s world-class arts and culture scene joins forces with the St. Petersburg Free Clinic this Saturday, September 23, as select museums and galleries waive admission charges from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. during ArtsAlive/Free Museum Day. Some locations will also serve as donation locations for canned or non-perishable food items to help with the Free Clinic’s hurricane recovery efforts, which happen to fall during Hunger Awareness Month. ArtsAlive/Free Museum Day is held annually in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Festival of the Arts, or SPF.
Participating Free Museum Day locations include the Museum of Fine Arts, Florida Holocaust Museum, and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, all open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Dali (Pinellas County residents only with ID) will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and offer limited free guest parking. Non-Pinellas County residents purchasing regular admission to The Dali on Saturday will receive a voucher for a free return visit from September 24-October 17, 2017. The St. Petersburg Museum of History is not participating this year due to planned interior maintenance.
On the gallery scene, the Morean Arts Center, Morean Center for Clay, Morean Glass Studio and Hot Shop, and the Chihuly Collection ($1 admission), Creative Clay, Florida CraftArt, and the St. Pete Store will also be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. Special discounts include 20% off on all merchandise and kids’ art activities at Creative Clay; 10% off purchases over $25 at Florida CraftArt; and 10% off all purchases at the St. Pete Store.
Visitors are also encouraged to assist the St. Petersburg Free Clinic’s Food Bank with hurricane recovery efforts through donations of canned or non-perishable food items at participating locations on Saturday. Donations will be accepted at the Florida Holocaust Museum, Creative Clay, Florida CraftArt, Morean Arts Center, Morean Center for Clay, and the St. Pete Store from 10 a.m-3 p.m.; at The Dali, donations will be accepted until 5:30 p.m. Items donated during Free Museum Day will remain in St. Petersburg for distribution through the Free Clinic’s Food Bank.
Parking for Free Museum Day is available in any of the downtown garages. Visitors are encouraged to ride the St. Petersburg Trolley Downtown Looper or the Central Avenue Trolley; schedule and stop information is available at www.loopertrolley.com.
Events on the final SPF17 weekend calendar include Florida Bjorkestra: BUFFYFEST at the Palladium Theater; the Florida Orchestra Sampler at the Museum of Fine Arts; Gypsy Jazz presented by the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association at the Palladium; and the St. Petersburg Jazz Experience 2017 in Vinoy Park.
