Cosme Water Treatment Plant to hold Open House October 14
St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 28, 2017) – Learn how St. Petersburg provides its citizens the highest quality drinking water with a visit to its Cosme Water Treatment Plant in in western Hillsborough County Saturday, October 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The plant – located at 16150 Race Track Road in Odessa – was originally built in 1930 and has been in continuous operation ever since. The plant can treat up to 68 million gallons of water per day, which makes its way 26 miles to St. Petersburg via transmission lines to two pumping and storage facilities where it is then distributed to more than 300,000 customers through 92,000 water accounts..
Visitors to the plant can expect to see how the city’s water – which originates from the shared resources of the Tampa Bay Water consortium – undergoes a three-step treatment process, including aeration, softening and filtration. Plant operators and Water Resources/Public Works leaders will be on hand to answer questions and offer further insight into the award-winning service provided.
