Small leak stopped at Northwest Water Reclamation Facility

St. Petersburg, FL  (November 9, 2017) – A small leak of partially treated wastewater was quickly stopped on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 on the property of the Northwest Water Reclamation Facility at 7500 26th Avenue North.

As part of the on-going work to upgrade filter operations at the facility, a contractor was pumping down a filter influent channel.  A broken gasket caused a leak at one of the hose clamps, and repairs of the gasket caused a brief back-flow in the line.  The discharge of approximately 300 gallons was stopped within 30 seconds of its discovery.

Most of the water that leaked was pumped back into the filter influent.  The small amount that seeped into the ground was shoveled up and placed on a drying pad for future disposal.  None of the liquid escaped the property lines of the Water Reclamation Facility.
