Quick reaction and hard work by Public Works crews save the day

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (November 15, 2017) -- Fifth Avenue South looked "like a river" as water from a bashed fire hydrant and broken water line gushed from an accident scene at the corner of 5th Ave. S and 16th Street (just south of Tropicana Field) Wednesday morning. The accident (which fortunately resulted in no injuries to the driver of either car involved) also took down a traffic light support and street light.

Quick work by crews from Stormwater, Pavement and Traffic Operations as well as the city's Water Resources Department helped get the leak stopped and the intersection re-opened by the evening rush-hour. There are still some fixes to the sidewalk and adjoining right-of-way, but that will be completed by crews at a later date.

This is just another example of how these hard-working men and women truly support the Sunshine City.
