Reclaimed leak stopped at Southwest Water Reclamation Facility

St. Petersburg, Fla. (December 22, 2017) – A leak of about 15,000 gallons of fully-treated reclaimed water leaked out of an eight-inch water line that was breached by a contractor’s track hoe shovel at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility (SWWRF) at 3800 54th Avenue South.

The unauthorized discharge – discovered around 3:20 pm Thursday (12/21/2017) and stopped by 3:40 p.m. – was contained in a ditch on-site at the SWWRF property. The leaking line was isolated before any more water escaped.  Repairs are ongoing to return the line to service.

None of the reclaimed water conveyed to nearby waterways.
