Emergency sewer repairs force walkway re-routing

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (March 14, 2018) – Some emergency sewer work will require walkers to re-route around a short section of 2nd Avenue NE for the next week or so.

One of the City’s contractors was preparing a sewer main for Cured-in-Place Pipe lining -- similar to jobs that have been done all over the city to help tighten up an aging and leaky collection system.  During the pre-cleaning process, a section of cast iron piping broke and made an emergency open-cut repair necessary.

Businesses affected are being notified of the work as a standard operating procedure.  No discharge of any sewage occurred.  The cured-in-place pipelining work will continue once the repairs are made.
