Disston Plaza Improvements force road closures
St. Petersburg, Fla (May 23, 2018) -- As part of the Disston Plaza Shopping Center redevelopment, crews will close 49th Street between 34th Avenue North and 37th Avenue North beginning June 1*.
This will be a complete closure in both directions of 49th Street. Two stormwater pipe junctions across 49th Street will be removed and replaced as part of the improvements to 49th Street. The contractor will replace both locations at the same time to minimize the closure time. The work is scheduled to begin Friday June 1, after the morning peak traffic period. The work is expected to take a maximum of two weeks.
Alternate routes and local detours will be marked with temporary signage and variable message boards. Pre-emptive messaging for motorists has been in place since May 10.
Local access to residents and businesses should be maintained, however minor disruptions are possible during the construction process. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather and unforeseen conditions. While this work is being coordinated through Pinellas County – which maintains this roadway – City of St. Petersburg streets and thoroughfares will make up the alternate routes.
*UPDATE (May 25, 2018): Due to the inordinate amount of rain we have been receiving lately as well as many unforeseen encountered utilities (specifically water services) along 49th Street which has substantially delayed progress of work within 49th Street, the construction schedule for the work within 49th Street has been delayed somewhat.
As a result, the schedule for will call for a new Road Closure Start Date of June 11 in lieu of June 1. This work effort is still anticipated to take about two weeks although every effort will be made to shorten this duration.
