40th Avenue Bridge traffic adjustments coming

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (May 24, 2018) – Traffic engineers have committed to a roadway reconfiguration which will allow vehicles to cross Placido Bayou on the 40th Avenue NE Bridge more efficiently.

While the Modification of Traffic (MOT) will keep one lane of east bound and one lane of west bound traffic, crews will shift the jersey barriers into a less severe curve, allowing the speed limit to be raised to 25 mph.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 4, 2018 after the morning rush-hour subsides.  It is anticipated that the work will take 2-3 days, and that the span (and its friendlier temporary transition) will be ready for traffic by Thursday, June 7.

Motorists are advised to continue to proceed with caution and adhere to the reduced speed limit of 25 mph.  While cyclists are permitted to use the bridge with the new speed limit, pedestrians are advised to utilize alternate routes.

Trucks using the bridge are also required to adhere to the posted weight limits and reduced speeds.
