Disston Detours Delayed
St. Petersburg, Fla (May 29, 2018) -- As part of the Disston Plaza Shopping Center redevelopment, crews will close 49th Street between 34th Avenue North and 37th Avenue North beginning Monday, June 11.
This will be a complete closure in both directions of 49th Street. Two stormwater pipe junctions beneath the roadway will be removed and replaced as part of the improvements to 49th Street. The contractor will replace both locations at the same time to minimize the closure time. While the work was initially scheduled to begin Friday June 1, heavy rains over the past few weeks and the discovery of additional utilities (specifically water services) along the construction corridor substantially delayed some of the set-up work. It is anticipated that the work will commence June 11th after the morning peak traffic period and should take a maximum of two weeks.
Alternate routes and local detours will be marked with temporary signage and variable message boards. Pre-emptive messaging for motorists has been in place since early May.
Local access to residents and businesses should be maintained, however minor disruptions are possible during the construction process. The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather and unforeseen conditions, but evefy effort will be made to shorten the duration of closure. While this work is being coordinated through Pinellas County – which maintains this roadway – City of St. Petersburg streets and thoroughfares will make up the alternate routes.
