Temporary closure… 40th Avenue Bridge Update
St. Petersburg, Fla (June 5, 2018) -- Following a planned closure to re-configure traffic lanes on the 40th Avenue Bridge, workers have been dismantling the old temporary lane barriers piece by piece. They’re also removing a more substantial portion of concrete barriers near the ends of the span. All of this is being done to smooth the curve that takes drivers to the outside lanes of the bridge.
This crossing of Placido Bayou dates back to 1961, with a widening facelift in 1990. But now its days are numbered. While the scheduled lane re-configuration – which will allow the speed limit to be raised to 25 mph – will be completed by Thursday, construction through this area will be a common sight.
