Repaving and Reconfiguration of MLK lanes to begin September 4

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (August 31, 2018) – Drivers along portions of MLK Jr. Street will see changes in road surfacing – and lane configuration – over the next few weeks as the City moves forward with the MLK Resurfacing and Reconfiguration project.

Construction is set to begin Tuesday night, September 4  weather permitting.  The milling and resurfacing work is scheduled nightly from 7 pm through 5 am.  This project – the next initiative in the Complete Streets Plan – will improve road safety and mobility options along and across Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street North by reconfiguring the lanes and adding crosswalks.

The work will begin in the northern part of the project, with paving and lane changes from 30th to 34th Avenue North completed within the first three days.  The rest of the resurfacing will progress over the next two weeks, weather permitting -- and related improvements will continue after resurfacing is complete.

While the work is taking place at night to minimize disruptions – and detours and modification of traffic patterns will be fully signed – the City of St. Petersburg recommends that drivers find an alternative route during the overnight construction times.
