Recreational Water Quality Results Update September 27, 2018

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (September 27, 2018) – The weekly Recreational Water sampling and testing has been completed by the Environmental Compliance Division of St. Petersburg Water Resources Department on the near-shore waters along Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

The latest results may be accessed on a user-friendly interactive map here: .

Listed below are the results and Water Quality Category according to the Healthy Beaches Program for the Beaches and Lassing Park for the September 19, 2018 sampling event.

Maximo Beach   4  Good
Northshore Beach  80  Poor

Treasure Island Beach  16  Good
Lassing Park  4  Good

Florida Healthy Beaches Program Categories are:
Good = 0-35 Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Moderate = 36-70 Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water
Poor = 71 or greater Enterococci per 100 milliliters of marine water

Since this bacteriological marker result for the sample collected September 26, 2018 at North Shore Beach exceeded the acceptable criteria for Enterococci as established by the Healthy Beaches Categories, signs warning swimmers have been posted along the waterway. Signs warning of the presence of Red Tide in the area have also been placed at Maximo Beach and the City of St. Petersburg Municipal Beach at Treasure Island.  The waters near North Shore Beach have been resampled and test results will be available tomorrow.

All of these samples are taken and testing is being done in accordance with the water testing protocols outlined in the City’s Water Quality Report Card .  Watch for important updates as well as continued outreach and education on the Recreational Water Quality Page.
