Design team details 40th Avenue Bridge Improvements

St. Petersburg, Fla.  (November 29, 2018) – More than 100 neighbors from Shore Acres, Patrician Point and Northeast Park heard about the intent to move forward with interim improvements and the ultimate replacement of the 40th Avenue NE Bridge over Placido Bayou at an informational Open House Tuesday night, November 27, 2018 at the Northeast Park Baptist Church.

In addition to a commitment from engineers and designers to increase the navigable clearance under the bridge to approximately 13 feet, plans for a temporary walkway – designed to safely accommodate pedestrians and cyclists – were revealed.  That walkway construction has a tentative start date in the first quarter of 2019, pending final contract details.  The work will temporarily close the bridge for up to six weeks.

Stakeholders were also able to express their preference on design elements -- like barriers, lighting and lane configurations.  Citizens continued their conversations with the project team, sharing insight and inspiration into the replacement of this now-57-year-old bridge with a structure which fits in with the neighborhood.

While updates are always available on the status of this project at www.40thAvenueBridge.com, stakeholders can expect further releases of information as specific project mileposts are reached.
