Theresa D. Jones joined the city of St. Petersburg in 1977. As the community affairs director, she is responsible for the enforcement of the city's human relations ordinance, which makes it unlawful to discriminate against an individual on the basis of race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, national origin, age, disability, place of birth, sexual orientation or marital status in housing, employment and public accommodations. She also provides oversight and guidance for the city's Police Civilian Review Committee, which investigates complaints involving citizens and St. Petersburg police officers.
She holds a bachelor's degree from Edinboro State University in Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Leadership St. Pete, and has received the President's Award and the Marks of Excellence Award for Minority Business Development. She was also named an Up and Comer in government.
She has been involved with the Community Alliance, Leadership St. Pete, National Minority Supplier Development Council, the Florida Association of Minority Business Enterprise Officials, National Forum for Black Public Administrators, the Florida Association of Community Relations Professionals (board member) and R Club Child Care, Inc. (board member).
