Mika S. Nelson
Mika joined the city of St. Petersburg as manager of main and branch libraries for the city-wide library system in April 2012. She was appointed director in January 2013. Since 2002, she has served in a variety of professional roles, including joint-use librarian and Program Director with St. Petersburg College, library information specialist and technology coordinator with Pinellas County Schools, and instructor librarian with the University of South Florida.
Mika's responsibilities include overseeing staff and resources for the Main Library and six branch libraries. Branch locations include the Mirror Lake, James Weldon Johnson, North and South community libraries, a micro library inside the Childs Park YMCA, and a partnership library with St. Petersburg College, the West St. Petersburg Community Library, SPC. She also oversees St. Petersburg's participation in the 15-member Pinellas Public Library Cooperative.
Mika earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Eckerd College and a master's in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida, where she was also inducted into Beta Phi Mu and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She is a member of the American Library Association and the Florida Library Association.
