For $3,950, we have the chance to assist the youth of low-income earning families in St. Petersburg increase their lifetime income by more than 100%! That is because those with college degrees earn on average $1 million more during their careers than those with merely a high school degree (US Census Bureau). That is what your gift of $3,950 earns the youth of low-income earning families in St. Petersburg, the opportunity of a college education or technical school degree that can set them on the road to greater economic success. That is what the Take Stock in Children/Doorways Scholarship Program does for these youth: for every $3,950 we raise, the Pinellas Education Foundation matches it dollar for dollar with another $3,950. This $7,900 is then matched dollar for dollar by the state of Florida for a total of $15,800 - the amount needed to fund a college or technical school scholarship.

In January 2010 the City of St. Petersburg in partnership with Pinellas County Schools and with funding from America's Promise Alliance presented Operation Graduation: Empowered, Engaged, Involved; a day-long community summit with a single purpose -- to find a way to increase the high school graduation rate in our community. From this summit, a community action plan was formulated proposing a 2% annual increase in the number of students graduating from high school, on time and ready for college or the workforce. Over a 5-year period, we look to raise our graduation rate nearly 10% -- from 76% to 86%.
