What are the Mayor's Top Apple Awards?
The Mayor's Top Apple Awards were created in 2005 as a way to honor those public schools in the city that earned an "A" grade from the state of Florida or improved their grade from the previous year. Twenty four of the city's 41 graded schools were recognized during the award's inaugural year.
St. Petersburg's graded public schools have shown great positive momentum. Our schools increased from 26% "A" and "B" schools in 2001 to 64% "A" and "B" in 2008; an improvement of nearly 250% during a time when increased standards make it more difficult to maintain and improve school grades.
