Finding volunteer opportunities is not always easy. Involved Citizens Active in Neighborhoods (I CAN) Initiative will be a working partnership with City departments and local nonprofit organizations to develop a one-stop-shop for residents interesting in volunteering. ICAN promotes initiatives highlighted in St. Petersburg while also enabling residents to access a wide range of additional opportunities from community partners. The first phase of the site features of the I CAN initiative plan and enables residents and organizations to connect with the City of St. Petersburg Neighborhood Partnership Department. A second phase of the site, enable organizations to post volunteer opportunities and residents to view/or search and connect to opportunities.
Citizen engagement and service in St. Petersburg is important to our City and a need that will increase as resources become more scarce and limited. This initiation is an opportunity to focus our efforts to stimulate and develop these capacities and to improve civic life in our city.
The high-impact Community Service and Volunteer Engagement Plan will focus on Education, Neighborhood Development, Environmental Conservation and Green Initiatives. Our Advisory Council is an integral part of the development of the Community Service and Volunteer Engagement Plan. It is comprised of a representative body of our city's departments, institutions, and stakeholders with service as a key focus. They will participate and give direction for the I CAN Initiative.
