Public Invited to Feet on the Street Midtown Photo Hop April 30

St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 21, 2005) -- The Midtown Arts Committee will present the first Feet on the Street Midtown Photo Hop on Saturday, April 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., starting at the Royal Theater, 1011 22nd St. S. The public is invited to “help celebrate Midtown photographically” and will have the opportunity to view nearly 120 photographs taken by members of the community -- amateurs, professionals and youth photographers earlier this year.

The Photo Hop starts at the Royal Theater, at 1011 22nd St. S., with seven other local businesses participating. A list of the other locations will be available at the Royal Theater during the event. Free trolley service will be available.

In February, photographers of all skill levels -- amateurs, students and professionals -- participated in the three-day community photo project to capture the spirit and essence, the people and places of Midtown St. Petersburg. Midtown encompasses a 5.5-square mile area in St. Petersburg between Fourth and 34th Streets, and from Second Ave. N. to 30th Ave. S. The Feet on the Street Midtown Photo Project was designed to gather the community together to create a documentary portrait of life in Midtown and to celebrate the rich history of one of our city’s most historically significant neighborhoods.

“We anticipate photos from this project will become a part of a living history of Midtown, presenting its rich history and featuring local businesses, generations of families and the historic 22nd Street S. District,” said Deputy Mayor for Midtown Economic Development Goliath J. Davis III.

Feet on the Street is sponsored by the city of St. Petersburg, Progress Energy, the Royal Theater Boys & Girls Clubs, The St. Petersburg Times and The Arts Center of St. Petersburg.
