REGATA DEL SOL AL SOL CELEBRATES 40th ANNUAL RACE WITH A CANNON SEND OFF AT THE PIER.

St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 22, 2008) - The public is invited to join city council members Leslie Curran, Bill Dudley and Wengay Newton along with members of the Isla Mujeres City Council and other dignitaries for the official send off of the 40th annual Regata del Sol al Sol race Friday, April 25 at 10 a.m. from the Waterside Courtyard at The Pier.

The regatta, a nine day event which travels from St. Petersburg to Isla Mujeres Mexico (approximately 450 nautical miles) will host an anticipated 60 boats that will compete in designated race classes of Spinnaker, Non Spinnaker, Racer Cruiser and True Cruiser. The boats will arrive in Isla Mujeres between April 26 and 29, with a formal reception on April 30 that includes the Mayor and city council of Isla Mujeres.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES:

The Regata del Sol al Sol will receive a Coast Guard fly by scheduled for 9:55 a.m. - 5 minutes before the start of the race. The race will begin at approximately 10 a.m. with a St. Pete Yacht Club Cannon send off.
