WEED AND SEED 12th ANNUAL FAMILY FUN DAY FESTIVAL MAY 3 FEATURES BK JACKSON-SAXOPHONIST

St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 23, 2008) -- The Weed and Seed 12th Annual Family Fun Day Festival will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the James B. Sanderlin Family Service Center, located at 2335 22nd Ave. S. There will be face-painting, storytelling, entertainment, give-aways, medical screenings, agency presentations, inflatable games, music, food and ice cream. The featured entertainer is BK Jackson, a teenage saxophonist.

“This inter-generational event continues to bring together community residents, police, social service agencies and organizations, churches, neighborhood associations, city officials, health care providers, friends and family for a day of healing, positive interaction, sharing and uniting at no cost to the community, in a drug- and crime-free venue,” said Deputy Mayor for Midtown Economic Development, Goliath J. Davis, III.

The festival provides an avenue to educate residents about the valuable resources available to them through the city, social services, health care, and the faith community. It is an ideal event to market services that are needed and available in the community. Services include free screening for bone marrow, blood pressure checks, diabetes, and for cholesterol. Registration to get pets spayed and neutered at a later date will be offered as well.

The event is co-sponsored by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, the St. Petersburg Police Department, the James B. Sanderlin Center, and the City of St. Petersburg.
