MEDIA ALERT and Photo Opportunity

SRI International to Test New Source

of Renewable Energy in Tampa Bay

WHAT:

SRI International will begin testing new technology that offers clean energy production from waves in Tampa Bay. This technology gives Florida the unique opportunity to harvest energy produced by waves in the waters surrounding our state for future commercial use. It may prove to be a significant first step toward large-scale clean energy production in our area.

SRI will deploy a buoy-mounted, ocean wave-powered generator that uses SRI’s patented electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM) technology. The generators can be deployed on existing ocean buoys that currently use batteries as their power source. The SRI generators offer a renewable method to continually power ocean buoys.

The prototype generator will be on display at this event for photos before deployment. Footage and photos are available by request.

WHO:

Experts on the technology will explain how the generators work and the technology’s role in bringing clean energy production to Florida.

WHEN:

Thursday, August 2, 2007

The two-week testing period will begin on Friday, August 3, 2007.
