Welcome

On behalf of the men and women of the St. Petersburg Police Department – welcome to our web site!

St. Petersburg is the fourth largest city in Florida with a population of nearly 250,000.  Our beautiful and modern city is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, providing residents and visitors with an outstanding year-round climate for many educational, cultural and leisure activities.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is one of 745 law enforcement agencies in the United States accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

In 2009, CALEA conferred upon us the highest honor of a “Flagship” police agency, one of only a few departments in the nation to receive this elite designation.

Our agency is also one of 130 Florida law enforcement agencies accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

These achievements reflect our Department’s commitment to excellence and our determination to adhere to the highest standards of policing.

Our Department is dedicated to a Community Policing philosophy, predicated on a high level of trust and partnership with the community, to mutually identify and resolve quality-of-life issues in our city.  This policing philosophy incorporates the Department’s three tenets of Respect, Accountability and Integrity in our interactions with all citizens.

The St. Petersburg Police Department has an authorized strength of 540 sworn officers and 234 civilian support staff, and each of our employees is eager to serve you.

I hope you find our web site informative and helpful.

Thank you for visiting with us.

Chief Charles "Chuck" Harmon
