Special Programs
This is a part of the Recreation Department that helps put on events in St. Petersburg. We work with co-sponsored event organizers to stage events in our parks and facilities. Special Programs also puts on several events sponsored soley by the city for the community. Some of these include: Snowfest, 4th of July and Christmas activities on the waterfront.
What is a Co-Sponsored Event?
An average of 90 events take place in the City of St. Petersburg yearly. When you consider there are only 52 weeks in a year, we have a lot going on here. Events like Taste of Pinellas, Special Olympics, The Rib Fest, St. Anthony’s Triathlon, Blues Fest, and Green Thumb Festival are just a few. The City assists groups and organizations meeting the requirements for co-sponsorhsip.
How to apply for co-sponsorship?
All requests for city co-sponsorship must be made each year in the Spring and organization must hold a 501-C3 certification. Applications are sent out early May and are due back early June. To be added to the mailing list for your packet or for more information on co-sponsorship call 727-893-7441.

Playcamp Events
Recreation Director Sherry McBee feels children in the City of St. Petersburg summer playcamp programs should have the opportunity to attend field trips regardless of their financial ability to pay. The Special Programs staff organizes and puts on three summer field trips for the entire city-wide playcamp program.
