Green City

Thursday, at the St. Petersburg City Council Meeting (watch ), St. Petersburg was designated as the first – and only – city in the state to become a “Green City” by the Florida Green Building Coalition. Throwing Out Is Out! - PLEASE RECYCLE!

Florida generates over 29 million tons of solid waste per year. If you’re the typical Florida resident, you throw away 10 pounds of trash a day. Now, you can recycle some of that trash, and help mother earth.

Recycling Preparation

Aluminum Cans - Cans only please. Rinse and crush

Cardboard - Clean, empty and flattened corrugated cardboard boxes only.

Glass - Rinse food and beverage containers, and separate by clear, green and brown. No need to remove labels. Please discard lids.

Magazines/Mail - Please remove plastic wrap, bags, CDs or magnets.

Newspapers - Loose (unbagged) newspaper and inserts.

Plastic - Only plastic bottles marked #1 or #2 on the bottom. Rinse and crush. No need to remove labels. Please discard caps.

Yard Waste - No logs over 4-foot length or in excess of 300 pounds
