34th St. S. Improvements
Project Overview
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is managing a resurfacing project for the 5-mile section of 34th St. from 22nd Ave. N. to 54th Ave. S. In addition to this resurfacing work, the 2-mile section from 22nd Ave. S. to 54th Ave. S. is planned to include the following additional improvements:
-
Re-purposing of the outside lanes from general purpose vehicle lanes to Business Access and Transit (BAT) lanes (i.e. shared bus and right-turn lanes)
-
Widening sidewalks on both sides of 34th St.
-
Adding new crosswalks with pedestrian-activated lights
This project is part of St. Petersburg's Complete Streets initiative. Complete Streets involves planning, design, operation, and maintenance to create streets that are safe and convenient for all users of the roadway, including people who are walking, riding bicycles, motorists, people with disabilities, users and operators of public transit, seniors, children, and movers of commercial goods. More about Complete Streets can be found at www.stpete.org/completestreets.
