3/15/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo-“Clumping Bamboo vs. Running Bamboo”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about types of bamboo and will be giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
3/22/14-Tricia Weimer of the Rose Society- “Roses in Florida”. Tricia will be teaching how to grow roses in Florida.

5/3/14- Tina Levy- “St Petersburg as a Small Town Farming Community”. Tina Levy is Market Manager for St. Pete Locally Grown (SPLG), entering its fourth year as an online chemical-free vegetable market resource for the St. Petersburg Community. Ms. Levy will share details on SPLG’s mission—and steps in progress—for building a productive, small town farming community—year-round—right here in St. Petersburg.
5/10/14- Rebecca Conroy- “Humans and Honeybees”. Rebecca has been a beekeeper of 10-15 hives in Pinellas County for many years. She raises bees naturally without chemicals in the hives or in the processing of honey. She is in charge of a monthly beekeeper group of 70 members of new and experienced beekeepers and is vice president of the Florida Herb Society. She will be teaching about the importance of honey bees to humans and the environment. She will have natural honey, soaps, lotions, and body care products for sale.
5/17/14- Rick Nale- “Palms in the Garden”- Rick has been on the City Beautification Commission for over 15 years. He has served as Chairman and Vice Chairman. He is very knowledgeable about palms and gives tours and promotes the Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum. He has given many presentations throughout the city on palms and palm care. He will be teaching about palms and give a garden tour about the palms of Sunken Gardens.
5/24/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo- “Non Invasive Bamboo”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about non invasive bamboo and will be giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
6/7/14- Michael Polen of Art Stone Orchids - “Phalaenopsis and Vanda Orchids” – Michael will teach about Phalaenopsis and Vanda orchid culture. Art Stone Orchids has been in business since 1959. Michael has been growing and hybridizing orchids for over 40 years. He has held official roles in the Florida West Coast Orchid Society. He will be bringing orchids for sale and upon special request, he can bring supplies.
6/14/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo-“Clumping Bamboo in the Florida Landscape”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about clumping bamboo and giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
6/21/14- Bob Heagey of Bonsai Koi Ponds- “Koi & Goldfish in the Garden Pond” – Bob has a degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture from the University of Florida. Bob does research at Florida Fish & Wildlife. He started Bonsai Koi Ponds with a focus on building ponds and raising quality Koi. He bred “Koi of the Year” in 1998 & 2000. He is teaching about Koi and goldfish in the garden Pond.
6/28/14- Jene’ VanButsel of Jene’s Tropicals-“Tropical Fruit”-_Jene’ owns Jene’s Tropicals Nursery in St Petersburg which sells a large variety of tropicals. She will be teaching about Tropical Fruit. Jene’ and her family have been involved in the nursery business for many years.
Admission to Sunken Gardens is $8 adults, $6 seniors (55+), $4 children (2-11). Sunken Gardens is located at 1825 Fourth Street North, St. Petersburg. For more information call 727-551-3102.
