7/19/14- Tina Levy- “St Petersburg as a Small Town Farming Community”. Tina Levy is Market Manager for St. Pete Locally Grown (SPLG), entering its fourth year as an online chemical-free vegetable market resource for the St. Petersburg Community. Ms. Levy will share details on SPLG’s mission—and steps in progress—for building a productive, small town farming community—year-round—right here in St. Petersburg.
8/9/14-WORKSHOP- Linda Worle-“Creating Succulent Wreaths”-Must pre-register. Cost $45 members, $55 non members. Create a Living Wreath made of live plants. You will learn how to create plant combinations for sun and shade. Workshop fee includes instructions, basic framework, materials, and some plants. Workshops can be cancelled if there are not enough attendees pre-registered.
8/23/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo-“Friendly Landscaping with Bamboo”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about landscaping with bamboo and will be giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
8/30/14-John Goss of JG’S Tropical Plants- John will be teaching about growing Heliconias and Gingers in Central Florida. He has a nursery and will be bringing plants to sell. He also sells worm castings.
9/6/14-Marilyn Eigsti of Wonderful Water Lilies-“Aquatic Plants for Ponds” - Marilyn will be teaching about aquatic and marginal plants for ponds. She has a nursery growing water lilies, lotus, Louisiana iris, and marginal plants. She will be bringing plants to sell.
9/20/14- Dennis Cathcart of Tropiflora Nursery- “Knowing and Growing Bromeliads for Central Florida Gardens”. Dennis, of Tropiflora, will be teaching about bromeliad culture in Florida. He has been a plant explorer, collector, and grower for 40 years. Tropiflora has been in business for over 35 years specializing in rare plants, bromeliads, epiphytes, aroids, orchids, and succulents. He will be bringing plants to sell.
9/27/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo-“Bamboo ID- Clumping vs. Running”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about types of bamboo and will be giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
10/18/14- Johnnie Jones of Very Rarely Gardens nursery- “Spicing up your Garden with (Easy) Rare and Unusual Plants”. Johnnie will be talking about rare plants you can grow here in Central Florida. These plants not offered by the big box stores can spice up your garden and encourage you to start a rare plant collection. Johnnie and his wife Teresa have been gardening for many years and have started nurseries and landscaping companies. Their interest in rare plants has led them to develop an extensive collection of unusual plants and open a nursery in Tampa called Very Rarely Gardens. Johnnie will be bringing rare plants to sell.
10/25/14- Mitch Kessler of Kessler’s Succulents-“Growing Cacti and Succulents in Florida” – Mitch has been growing cacti and succulents for more than 30 years. He has over 10,000 plants in his nursery. Mitch will be teaching about growing and propagating succulents in Florida. He is bringing a variety of plants to sell.
11/15/14-Dennis Gretton of D and D Growers-“Growing Herbs Successfully in Florida and Culinary Uses” Dennis will be teaching about growing herbs in Florida and the culinary use of herbs. He and his wife are the owners of D&D growers in Lithia,FL and have been growing herbs for more than 20 years. They grow herbs (including 35 varieties of mint), gingers, and carnivorous plants. They will bring herb plants to sell.
11/22/14- Karlyn Bradshaw of Island Bamboo-“ Bamboo Basics and Maintenance”. Karlyn of Island Bamboo Nursery will be teaching about basic bamboo culture and maintenance and will be giving a $10.00 gift certificate to Island Bamboo Nursery to those who attend.
11/29/14-WORKSHOP-Linda Worle-“Creating Hanging Swags”-Must pre-register. Cost $48 members, $58 non members. Create hanging swags for the Holidays. Workshops can be cancelled if there are not enough attendees pre-registered.
12/6/14- WORKSHOP-Linda Worle-“Creating Christmas Trees”-Must Pre-register. Cost $38 members, $48 non members. Learn how to create a living Christmas tree from plant combinations. Instruction, basic framework and materials to create a 9" Christmas Tree are included in the workshop fee. Workshops can be cancelled if there are not enough attendees pre-registered.
Admission to Sunken Gardens is $8 adults, $6 seniors (62+), $4 children (2-11). Sunken Gardens is located at 1825 Fourth Street North, St. Petersburg. For more information call 727-551-3102.
